Proud to Be an Uncle: LJ Idol, Week 3

It was a Sunday afternoon, I was at my mom's place for a family
gathering. I had two of my young nieces on my lap, and I was telling
them my version of the story of the three little pigs. For those who are
unfamiliar with my telling of the tale, it varies rather substantially
from the standard-issue version. You can access a recording of my
version of the story here.

Once I finished telling the story, one of my nieces turned to me. "Uncle
Bruce," she said, "I'm so glad you're my uncle."

We all look for affirmation, for validation, for praise of some kind in
life, whether we're willing to admit it or not. This affirmation means a
lot from anyone. But when I hear a sincere, innocent expression of love
from a child, that to me is an absolutely indescribable feeling of joy.

This reminds me of last summer when I was visiting my sister in Minnesota. My 8-year-old niece, who I'd only seen once when she was a little baby, was really excited to see me. We were sitting outside one day and she told me that she'd missed me. I just thought that was the sweetest thing because I knew that she didn't remember me at all, yet she had no trouble at all excepting me. It was the neatest feeling!!!
Oh duh, now I realise why masterofmusing seemed a familiar name with a familiar userpic. Haha

Great entry by the way :)
Where on your site do we go to hear your version of the story? :-)
Try the link again. This time it should go directly to the file.
Hahahaha, that was fantastic!
I'm really glad you ennjoyed it, and thanks very much for pointing out that the link was incorrect.
I love this entry. It's so simple, but it describes perfectly that feeling. ::sigh:: words are failing me but what I'm trying to say is that I loved this entry and thank you for writing it.
Thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
That is a really great feeling. :)
Words were never truer... wonderful post... !
So simple, so few words and yet it describes volumes. That is truly one of the most amazing compliments you can be given. Enjoy it and hope they remember when they're teens!
So, children and I don't get along so well, but this was a remarkable entry.

BTW, I never realized just how fond wolves were of Coke. I wonder if regular old dogs like it even half as much. (Grin)
Oh yeah, don't kid yourself. They drink that stuff as if it were ... as if it were ... oh, some stuff that wolves drink lots of.
So simple and so beautiful.
aww, how sweet!
Awww! This was neat.

Yes! Whether it's my niece (4) telling me I'm her best friend, or my nephew (2) telling me he wants to marry me, it makes me proud to know them.
I love how simply you tell this. It's wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
This is so sweet!
